Not every books needs a damn romance, especially if it’s just pasted on for a little extra word count. Easy, beach or airplane reading.

Eternity Road First Impressions: It’s a pretty neat concept, and real easy to get lost in the world he creates for you. Aug 27, Squee rated it liked it.

The characters are solid and believable. The first group is decimated, only the leader returns, but on his death bequeaths the only known copy of Mark Twain’s “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court” which he brought back from his journey, to a woman he barely knows, the sister of one of his expeditions’ lost members.

Avila’s death shot several times after expressing previously barely indicated sexuality–of course; sexual women always die, the dirty sluts, bla bla bla yawn, and yes she was trying to save the mfdevitt but the scene just felt exploitative was terrible, and seemed like it was written to titillate as much as anything else.

It was an interesting read all the way up until then though. This one is simply a matter of taste so The motivations of each of the characters are flimsy even when the reasons they give are valid. But they stop short of being doctrinaire anti-religious screeds; the author’s agnosticism, if I interpret him rightly, cuts both ways, and he simply poses questions without implying that he knows all the answers, and knows that they’re negative.

As in the movie The Happening. The first pages or so are a bit slow–just buildup to the group leaving. Mike, a sentient computer AI from the Roadbuilder times, who remembered the Roadbuilders and undoubtedly had all kinds of treasure troves of information to offer, who the group kills at his request.

So I’m gonna give it a few stars for effort. But in terms of caring about the characters, their stories, or their lives, I just could not get that involved in them. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. I felt like I was sitting in a tour bus driving by all these amazing sites, but never really had the opportunity to get out and know any of the people living in them.

Well we have a sort of “here we go again” in this one. They make a lot of discoveries, and it’s very clear how little they understand of much of what they find. With the newfound popularity of Urban Fantasy, Steampunk, and Historical Science Fiction, which I enjoy immensely by the way, we still need throwback writers who can eterniy expand our imaginations. Overall the gender stuff isn’t done as heinously as a lot of other post-apocalyptic stuff though, and the author does show that some of the other little societies that have cropped up are more open to women having a mcsevitt equal role.

Good story arc, continues the saga. He did his usual excellent job, but since my perspective is a bit different he rated the book only “okay”I thought it might be opportune to throw in my two cents worth. And if that’s what the whole book was based on, then I have to say it’s not a very good book. Once you think about it, the entire premise sort of falls apart. That people will revere the written word under these circumstances is most probable. The story is mainly hinged on the group of characters interested in finding out what happened to a previous expedition that went north to find ‘Haven’.

Not greatbut definitely three stars imho. After many adventures and rlad many deaths several good characters were killed off unnecessarily in my opinion Haven is located.

The first expedition failed with almost a complete loss of life. Sign up here to receive your FREE alerts. The discoveries mcdevith me and piqued the curious bone.
